Decision 5: Choosing a roulette table with a
better chance of winning To
get an edge at roulette you can increase your chances of winning by assessing
the dealer’s pattern of spinning the wheel and releasing the ball. Many
roulette dealers tend to repeat “near identical” conditions in many of their
spins – not consciously, but due largely to rote, repetition, or muscle
memory. These three factors –
rote, repetition and muscle memory – create the bias, or dealer signature, and
make it possible for knowledgeable players to gain an edge over the house.
Tip 1: Playing your “Lucky” or Favorite Numbers If
you are a roulette player, you probably have noticed the Electronic Display
Board recording each number that hits with the last number on top of the board
and then another 20 or 30 numbers, prior hits, below it.
You will need to observe the Electronic Display Board to implement the
idea below. Examine
a diagram of the roulette wheel, pick a lucky or favorite number that has
meaning to you (birthday, etc.) Memorize
two numbers on either side of it – but on the wheel, not the layout.
For example, the number 32 with 17 and 20 on either side of the 32. In
choosing these three numbers, you have arbitrarily chosen a 3-pocket sector of
the wheel. Actually, you could memorize a number of 3-pocket sectors and
use the techniques below to determine if one of these sectors is “hot.” Wheel
diagrams are available at any casino roulette wheel or on Page 179 of Casino
Gambling. Choose
roulette tables where any of these three numbers show up on the electronic
display board twice in the last 8 to 10 spins.
For
example, if, in checking the last 8 hits of your three chosen numbers, you
notice the 32 and 17. Your 3-pocket sector has hit twice and you may be looking at
a dealer signature and a possible edge on the next few spins. Why?
Because the odds are that any 3-pocket sector will hit about once every
13 spins. Yours has hit twice in
the last 8 spins. You
can test this idea in a $5 minimum game by betting $2 on each of these three
numbers (your total bet of $6 qualifies at a $5 minimum table).
If
you don’t get a win within four spins, walk away.
On
a win, for the next three spins bet the same three numbers, but step up your
bets as follows: Conservative
bettors, bet $3 on each number for a risk of $27. More
aggressive bettors, bet $4 on each number for a risk of $36. Very
aggressive bettors, bet $5 on each number for a risk of $45 If
you lose on each of the three spins, walk.
If one of your numbers hits, repeat the series but stepping up one unit
to $4 each on spin 1, $5 each on spin 2, and $6 each on spin 3. This
is a hit-and-run tactic so any time you lose the 3 or 4 spins in succession,
walk. This
tactic is called a Power Sector Method. I
need to point out that you are still gambling, but you have a little more going
for you than just betting randomly. More
details and more angles on it can be found in Chapter 17 of Casino Gambling.
Tip
2: How to find a dealer-generated
signature! If
the dealer you are observing is hesitating before release, waiting for either
the single- or double zero before releasing, you may be observing a natural
dealer bias! In
releasing the ball on the zero or double zero (house numbers, house wins except
for players betting on these two numbers), is the dealer aiming for the house
numbers? I’ll let you be the
judge of this; let’s just take advantage of this phenomenon when it occurs. Check
the last 8 spins on the Electronic Display Board to get your answer.
If you see two of these numbers, you may be looking at a dealer
signature: 0, 2, 28; or two of
these numbers: 00, 1, 27. I
suggest making make three split bets of $2 each on 0/00, 1/2 and betting the 27
and 28 straight up for $2 each for a total risk of $8 on each of the next 3 or 4
spins, a total risk of $24 or $32. To
make a split bet, position it on the line separating the two numbers. On a win, use the strategy above for increasing your bets. Walk on a loss.
